Our Story
Assessment through Research and Technology to serve the Environment and Humanity

Arteh began in 2019 when Natalie Hurtado and Saphira Rekker met through the University of Queensland. Saphira was researching how to accurately measure corporate emissions alignment with Paris Agreement goals.

Natalie, drawing on her experience as an insurance industry regulator, saw that mandatory climate disclosure was coming and that most businesses would be unprepared.

When data scientist Hugo Silva joined as co-founder, the team had the three pillars they needed: regulatory insight, climate science methodology and engineering capability.

Natalie Hurtado
Founder

Natalie brings over 15 years of experience spanning insurance regulation, climate risk disclosure, and sustainable finance.

She played a key role in establishing the Insurance Sustainable Forum under UNEP-FI and the Bank for International Settlements, and has worked at the intersection of regulatory compliance and environmental risk throughout her career.

At RACQ, she led carbon accounting, climate disclosure reporting, and internal education programs.

Natalie holds a PhD in Finance from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the University of Queensland, specialising in climate change and community development.

Hugo Silva
Co-Founder

Hugo brings over 15 years of expertise in software engineering, machine learning, and data science.

He led the technical development of ARTEH’s cloud-based SaaS platform, architecting the systems for automated emissions calculation, sustainability report generation, and decarbonisation scenario modelling.

Under his technical leadership, ARTEH received multiple innovation awards and secured participation in Australian government acceleration programs.

Hugo also has an active research background in machine learning and data science, with publications in prominent AI and law journals.

Saphira Rekker
Co-Founder

Dr Saphira Rekker is a Senior Researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of Queensland, where she has spent over a decade researching corporate climate alignment — specifically, how to measure whether a business’s emissions trajectory is consistent with Paris Agreement limits.

Her research is funded by the Australian Government and involves collaborations with Oxford and Princeton. Saphira serves on expert groups for the Science Based Targets initiative, the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative, and the ISO Net Zero standards.

She holds degrees in International Business and Finance from Tilburg University and a PhD in Climate Finance from UQ.

Thomas Key

CEO

Thomas is an environmental markets professional with over 17 years of commercial consulting experience and a Master of Applied Finance.

As CEO of ARTEH, he brings deep expertise in the intersection of financial structuring and environmental compliance.

Thomas has worked across Australian and international carbon and biodiversity markets, providing advisory services to governments and corporates on project design, emissions modelling, regulatory approvals, and investment-grade financial analysis.

His work has been published in the Environmental Scientist international journal, and he brings practical market knowledge to ARTEH’s product development and commercial strategy.

Lola Sharef
Marketing Lead

Lola is a UI/UX designer and marketer who designed and built ARTEH’s website and landing pages. She leads customer research, user experience design, and marketing campaigns across the platform.

With a background in both digital design and traditional art, Lola combines creativity with strategic thinking, ensuring ARTEH’s brand and communication are clear, engaging, and user-focused. She is passionate about crafting experiences that are not only visually compelling but also intuitive and impactful for users.
